She saw it. She saw me; almost. She saw me dry the tears of his eyes and suck his soul:gently, slowly, carrying it out of the limited life on Earth and into the quantum of freedom. All that I left behind was the body of a man who regretted every breath and every heartbeat. Yet again, she escaped my hands:once more.
I get blamed for the misfortunate ending of all of human misery when I only do my duty of placing each soul into the bounds of heaven or hell.
Her stomach was tied in a tight knot, a heavy lump in her throat and a disturbing uneasiness choked her body. She had to tell someone, but what should she say? That she had seen a man being killed , but there was no evidence the spiteful murder had ever taken place? Maybe.
She shut herself in the four walls of her hotel room, away from the chaotic world, but into the further distressed thoughts of her own mind. If it went on like this, she would soon surrender herself to me, except it didn’t happen that way.
Her heart pounded loudly;louder than an elephant walking in rage. She rushed down the depressing stairs of the lonely hotel feeling her palms trace the chilly railing. Rain was pelting down outside , her mind even more in anger than the clouds above. She was going to do it;tell someone.
“You have to believe me , I saw his life being taken from him. Please listen!” she blurted out to the receptionist. And then she saw it in the receptionist eyes. Her mind had played an evil game with her again. Sweat raced down her temples;it was pinching cold outside. She had spitted out her dirty little secret. She said not what she thought she did. She had admitted that she was guilty.
And in that way she slowly was beginning to fall into my lap, starting with criminal prosecution and then gradually onto the path of death. Slowly then all at once, I would grasp her ,liberating her from her endless suffering.
Her eyes teared up, and she felt her heart stop;except that was only a thought. But it wouldn’t be long before that was reality. Her time had come. She could no longer escape me. At the end , no one can.
